Birkdale Golf Club

Birkdale Golf Club "Golf is a game of misses." - Ben Hogan (Played on Sunday, December 24th, 2017.) Birkdale Golf Club is an Arnold Palmer designed golf course located in Huntersville, North Carolina, about a half an hour north of Charlotte. The 9th flagstick at Birkdale. This is not the same Royal Birkdale that Jordan Spieth won his third major last Open Championship, obviously. You may be wondering why we are all the way down here, instead of back in the homeland that is New Jersey. Well, two-thirds of us were still in chilly New Jersey on Christmas Eve, while the other third was playing golf in just as chilly North Carolina. Chris Colman was the lone Sunday Golfer, playing with his uncle while visiting relatives in Huntersville. He surely missed his two friends while he was playing, but nothing could stop him from playing. Colman had played this course a few times, but never had the chance to take many photos, so he finally had photos of his own to sho

December Golf in New Jersey - What's to Come in 2018

December Golf in New Jersey "Cinderella story, out of nowhere..." - Carl Spackler (Sunday, December 17th, 2017) Happy Holidays! We die-hard golfers here in New Jersey are accustomed to playing in cold, bitter winter weather.  Frozen greens, chilly wind, and sunlight that is a luxury that we really appreciate when spring arrives. What New Jersey golfers are use to seeing during the winter months. There is nothing quite like it. Although it is sometimes an annoyance waiting for frost to lift before our morning round, or having a shot ricochet off the green like it asphalt.  In the end, the only thing that matters is that we are having fun.  Some people think we're crazy to play in 30 degree weather, and sometimes I think these people are right. However, most of the time, these "golfers" are the players who put their clubs away from October to April, and throw their clubs in frustration.  They wonder why they can't hit the ball sol

Stockton Seaview Hotel and Golf Club (Bay Course)

Seaview (Bay Course) "A man who can putt is a match is a match for anyone" - Willie Park (Played on Sunday, November 27th, 2017.) Seaview Resort is located in the town of Galloway, New Jersey. Stockton Seaview Hotel & Golf Club. About an hour drive from where we live, the Bay Course is one of the best public courses in New Jersey. The Seaview Resort is a short drive from Atlantic City. We had so much fun playing it, we wanted to play it again almost immediately after we finished our round. With the third member of our group, Thomas, busy with work, it was only the two Chris's of the Sunday Golfers out on the Bay course. Even though it was November, and the temperature never got above 53 degrees, Chris Pusey wore his classic shorts and short-sleeve polo, while Chris Colman wore pants, long-johns, two jackets, and a long sleeve undershirt. Two entirely different personalities to say the least. Chris Pusey teeing off the 4th hole in a blistering 45 deg

Beckett Golf Club

Beckett Golf Club "Golf is the closet game to the game we call life..." - Bobby Jones (Played on November 12th, 2017.) Beckett Golf Club is located in Woolwich Township, New Jersey. The Beckett scorecard. We tend to try and play courses where we don't have to spend a lot of money, so as our first course we set out to review, we decided to choose the course where both Chris Colman and Chris Pusey work. The course was built in 1964, and originally was a 27 hole layout. Chris Pusey posing on the 16th teebox. Now Beckett is only 19 (Yes, 19) holes and this public course is pretty beat up. Maintenance has always been an issue at this old school course, and keeping fairway grass alive, bunkers maintained, greens rolling, and the overall course in decent has always differed year to year. Despite all of those problems being present over the years, we actually like the course quite a bit. We played Beckett on a crisp Sunday morning in 35-45 degrees, and had

What is this golf blog all about?

What is this golf blog is all about? The date is November 8th, 2017. Because this is our first blogpost, so we should properly introduce ourselves. We are the Sunday Golfers; Chris Colman, Chris Pusey, and Thomas Pusey. (Pronounced PEW - ZEE) We have known each other for about five years, but we have been playing golf regularly for about a year. We call ourselves the Sunday Golfers, but we play as often as we can, and wherever possible. Located out of southern New Jersey, we are trying to play as much golf as we can in our lives, and will review each course we play, and write what each of us thought of it. Because we play almost every week, no matter the weather or condition of the course, we will hopefully have several reviews a month. All of the content will be our own doing. While we are aware that some blogs and websites like to review courses or rate them, this is mostly for our own enjoyment, so that one day, a couple years from now we will be able to look back and s
