Beckett Golf Club

"Golf is the closet game to the game we call life..." - Bobby Jones

(Played on November 12th, 2017.)

Beckett Golf Club is located in Woolwich Township, New Jersey.

The Beckett scorecard.

We tend to try and play courses where we don't have to spend a lot of money, so as our first course we set out to review, we decided to choose the course where both Chris Colman and Chris Pusey work. The course was built in 1964, and originally was a 27 hole layout.

Now Beckett is only 19 (Yes, 19) holes and this public course is pretty beat up. Maintenance has always been an issue at this old school course, and keeping fairway grass alive, bunkers maintained, greens rolling, and the overall course in decent has always differed year to year. Despite all of those problems being present over the years, we actually like the course quite a bit.

We played Beckett on a crisp Sunday morning in 35-45 degrees, and had the course pretty much to ourselves. Being able to play at our own pace is always a plus. Chris Pusey's brother Thomas couldn't join us for our round, but he'll be back for a round in the near future.

Whenever we play this course, we always talk about how cool Beckett would look without trees. The course is located on small hills with nice picturesque views that would look awesome if the course was a little more open.

Chris Colman on the 6th tee.

Overall, the course is not very long. Just over 6000 yards from the back tees, the only problem many people will run into are the poor, muddy lies in the fairway and crabgrass on the greens here and there.

When it came to our favorite holes, we came to an agreement that holes 11, 14, and 16 were the best on the course. The elevation changes and variety of holes makes Beckett's back nine the better of the two nines.

Here are a few more pictures of our day. And yes, Chris Pusey is wearing a short sleeve golf shirt and shorts in 40 degree weather. Cold weather doesn't faze him.

So that's our first review. We hope you enjoyed reading it and there will be plenty more to come. We sure like to golf a lot.

Westwood Golf Club "The harder you work, the luckier you get." - Gary Player (Played on February 19th, 2020) We have been trying to find the inspiration to write about Westwood for a long time now. It has been a course some of us have been playing for over 5 years. However, we never really got around to playing a full 18 holes at Westwood together until recently. So, this review is well overdue. We are going to feature a few photos from our day, as well as some from our rounds over the past few years that we have collected. If you follow us on Instagram (@TheSundayGolfers) you might recognize a few of them. Colman on the par five 1st hole. Thomas teeing off the par five 1st hole. Christopher launching one right down the middle on the par five opener at Westwood. Westwood has the easiest three holes to start a golf course you might ever see. The first hole is a dead straight, 450 yard par five, with only a couple bunkers in front of the green to stop pe

Shore Gate Golf Club

Shore Gate Golf Club "Always make a total effort, even when the odds are against you." - Arnold Palmer (Played on May 12th, 2020) Coronavirus has put a bit of a hitch in our summer plans. When we were not allowed to play golf for a month and a half here in New Jersey, we all had to sit inside and find things to keep our minds occupied as we slowly went insane. Thankfully, our governor finally allowed our courses to open up in the beginning of May, so Colman and Chris decided to take full advantage and play a course we had not yet played. That is how we found ourselves down the shore at Shore Gate Golf Club. Chris Pusey on the opening hole at Shore Gate Golf Club Shore Gate Golf Club has a private club atmosphere, but it is fully open to the public. While the greens were recently aerated which put a bit of a damper on the round, it did not take away from just how outstanding the rest of the course was. The course is tight. Keeping the ball in the fairway is the

Our 2019 Year In Review "Touch is something you create by hitting a million golf balls." - Lee Trevino While we apologize for the lack of posting on our blog as of late, we have all been very busy to travel around and play new courses in our area together. With work, school, and other engagements, finding the right time get together and play is not easy.  However, that has not stopped us from playing every chance we get. January 26th - We began our year at our local municipal Pitman Golf Course . While it may not be Bethpage Black level of municipal, this course was designed by the same man who designed East Lake Golf Club in Georgia, where they play the Tour Championship every year. It is not the most challenging golf course in the area, but its classic design makes it fun to play every single time we te
