Our 1 Year Anniversary

A Year in Review!

Happy 1 year Anniversary to The Sunday Golfers!

The Sunday Golfers, plus our friend Jaden.

We hope whoever is reading these reviews of the local courses in the greater Philadelphia area (and beyond) enjoys the content and continues checking in to every review we do. Everyone here hopes that we can get out a few more times before the real bad winter weather hits.

A little insight into how our year was. Despite a lot of golf being played, and the on and off weather we have gotten, we generally stuck to a few of our local courses in the area, Beckett, Riverwinds, Merchantville etc. But considering it was a busy year for all of us, we consider that just getting out to play together is a good thing to be thankful for.

Over the year, we developed a few opinions over our favorite courses we played, our favorite holes we played, and the top courses we'd like to hit within the next year.

Colman's favorite course this year: Seaview (Bay) Golf Course.

From the top of the TV tower still up from the LPGA Shoprite Classic.

Right on the Jersey bay across from Atlantic City. Every time we get the chance to play it makes for a great day trip down the shore. A great mixture of short and long holes makes for a great test of golf, even though that if the winds blows, big scores have been made.

Favorite hole: The 17th at Riverwinds Golf and Tennis Club.

Picturesque par 3 right on the Delaware river at sunset. Doesn't get better than this.

Short, downhill par 3 over the Delaware river, with no bailout area. It's either hit the green and take your par, or take a triple and move on.

Chris Colman's top course to play next year: Bethpage Black Municipal Golf Course.

This would be a dream come true.

Thomas Pusey's favorite course: Twisted Dune Golf Club

The 9th hole at Twisted Dune. A good length par 5 with water left, usually always finding a way to catch Colman's golf ball.

For public courses in the area, this one is the most unique. The wide open, windswept course, where big misses are better than little misses, this course has the feeling of playing Scottish-like golf in southern New Jersey. With fantastic chicken fingers sold in the clubhouse, it's always fun to return to this gem.

Favorite hole: The par 4 10th at Running Deer Golf Club.

Thomas teeing off on the par 4 10th a Running Deer.

A semi-elevated tee, a sea of bunkers, and a wild, undulating green protect this mid-length par 4 from being a weak hole. Only four good shots will render a par, or else it's a double bogey waiting to happen.

Thomas's top course to play next year: Scotland Run Golf Club.

A top public course in our area. Amazing we haven't played here yet.

Chris Pusey's favorite course this year: Twisted Dune Golf Club.

The legend himself, Chris Pusey, doing "the pose" on the 18th at Twisted Dune.

The great course conditions, the wide open layout, and the chicken fingers in the clubhouse make this course stand out as the best course in the area, and could quite possible be Chris's favorite course ever.

Favorite hole: The 9th hole at Twisted Dune Golf Club.

Colman skulling his 4 wood somehow onto the green.

A great par 5 to end the front 9 and really have a chance to go out with a good score. Good drives are rewarded and set up a chance to make birdie, but flirt too hard with the left side and par is gone.

Chris's top course to play next year: The Ocean Course at Kiawah.

The Ocean Course is one of a kind.

We dream about playing on the ocean, and next year it could very well happen. The views are worth a price of admission alone at Kiawah, so the greens fees aren't cheap, and it isn't necessarily a course close by, but you never know where the year may bring you to.

Here's to a great year and many more. Like we said at the beginning, we hope that whoever enjoys reading these continues following our posts, as we hopefully find the invite to the top private clubs in our area, and to beyond. Thank you.

Westwood Golf Club

Westwood Golf Club "The harder you work, the luckier you get." - Gary Player (Played on February 19th, 2020) We have been trying to find the inspiration to write about Westwood for a long time now. It has been a course some of us have been playing for over 5 years. However, we never really got around to playing a full 18 holes at Westwood together until recently. So, this review is well overdue. We are going to feature a few photos from our day, as well as some from our rounds over the past few years that we have collected. If you follow us on Instagram (@TheSundayGolfers) you might recognize a few of them. Colman on the par five 1st hole. Thomas teeing off the par five 1st hole. Christopher launching one right down the middle on the par five opener at Westwood. Westwood has the easiest three holes to start a golf course you might ever see. The first hole is a dead straight, 450 yard par five, with only a couple bunkers in front of the green to stop pe

Shore Gate Golf Club

Shore Gate Golf Club "Always make a total effort, even when the odds are against you." - Arnold Palmer (Played on May 12th, 2020) Coronavirus has put a bit of a hitch in our summer plans. When we were not allowed to play golf for a month and a half here in New Jersey, we all had to sit inside and find things to keep our minds occupied as we slowly went insane. Thankfully, our governor finally allowed our courses to open up in the beginning of May, so Colman and Chris decided to take full advantage and play a course we had not yet played. That is how we found ourselves down the shore at Shore Gate Golf Club. Chris Pusey on the opening hole at Shore Gate Golf Club Shore Gate Golf Club has a private club atmosphere, but it is fully open to the public. While the greens were recently aerated which put a bit of a damper on the round, it did not take away from just how outstanding the rest of the course was. The course is tight. Keeping the ball in the fairway is the

The Sunday Golfers Year In Review 2019 Edition

Our 2019 Year In Review "Touch is something you create by hitting a million golf balls." - Lee Trevino While we apologize for the lack of posting on our blog as of late, we have all been very busy to travel around and play new courses in our area together. With work, school, and other engagements, finding the right time get together and play is not easy.  However, that has not stopped us from playing every chance we get. If you would like to see what we have been up to, or just want to check in on some pretty sweet photos we have taken, check us out on our Instagram @TheSundayGolfers. January 26th - We began our year at our local municipal Pitman Golf Course . While it may not be Bethpage Black level of municipal, this course was designed by the same man who designed East Lake Golf Club in Georgia, where they play the Tour Championship every year. It is not the most challenging golf course in the area, but its classic design makes it fun to play every single time we te
